Weird "Lost" dream

So on the show Lost, whose season finale is this week, Locke and Ben have discovered they need to move the island to keep it safe.  I had the weirdest dream about that.

I am on the island along with everyone else on the show, and they are getting ready to move it. Except when it comes to moving the island, it's a little more difficult than first thought, as it is really on another solar system, and the island is the whole planet.  I'm not sure how the moving process began, but when it did, everything went terribly wrong.

There were landslides, floods, all the snow melted almost instantaneously (I know there is no snow on the island, but like I said, it's more like a whole planet in the dream), there were earthquakes, the Sun became incredibly strong and burned peoples' eyes.  Then there were missiles being fired at people.  Either that, or they were meteorites.  People were dying left and right.

Then the dream cuts to me and Ashley sitting in the middle of my living room floor, doing some planning, when a phone on the coffee table rings.  It's the same kind of phone from work, so I set the call to go straight to voicemail, as it's really way too early to be calling about anything.  Then the "message" light comes on, indicating the caller left a voicemail.  I try to access it, but I keep punching the numbers in wrong.  I get frustrated and finally give up, figuring I can check it when I get back to work.

Then we are back on the island, and there's a point where you can see outer space from the planet- like bubble that the island is in,  The whole thing is being rocked around, back and forth, out of its natural orbit.  You can see other planets in that solar system starting to get sucked into a black hole.

Then the alarm started going off.

What the heck was that all about?

First half of the weekend

I am so glad it is finally the three day weekend! On Thursday night, Aaron and I went to go see Iron Man, the first movie we've been to in two years, since Superman Returns came out! It was really good. I didn't even know there was a comic called Iron Man until the previews for this movie started showing, so I went in with no expectations of how it should be, which is always nice. Even Aaron enjoyed it, so it must've been good. That, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark is HOT.

Friday after work, Aaron and I went to Bret and Jess' house for grilling steaks, and I think we are going back over tonight. They just got a new, really nice grill, and the weekend weather is perfect for it. We had steak, mashed potatoes, and grilled corn on the cob. All very good. Will and Vandy were there, as well, and they made a really good mango/avacado salsa that we all munched on while waiting for dinner.

This morning Aaron and I went for a walk at the Theodore Wirth Parkway, which has a bird sanctuary. We'd gone there in April when Aaron's folks were visiting us, and there were a few flowers and plants starting to come up out of the ground. It was quite a change today, now a month later. I took lots of pictures, so I'm going to post those on here.

We got Odin his cat-carrier for when we take him out to South Dakota next month for our vacation back home. He tolerated being in there well, so I don't foresee getting him struggling against us when we need to put him in there for various reasons.

So far, a busy last couple of days. I'm not sure what's in store for Sunday or Monday, but I don't really care at this moment.

That should hold you over for a while. I'm not sure what most of those plants are called, so don't ask.

I was sneezing and snurfing quite a bit near the end of our 45 minute walk in the bird sanctuary. I kept saying that I don't have allergies, but Aaron then pointed out that Yes, I do have allergies, and that I get them every year, and every year he has to make me take benedryl or something. I concluded that I must have blocked out the horrible memories of allergies, because I sure didn't remember all that.

Odin's first bath

You asked for it, you got it. Odin's first bath! Be warned, he does make some of the most terrible noises you will here, and you might think that he is being cat-murdered, but he is not. He's just quite unhappy with his damp situation. He is now fine and bouncy and fback to his normal self. He doesn't even hate us that much.

Problem solved

Well, the handyman came by a little after 8pm last night to fix the tub.  First he plunged.  Then he used a small snake, which got bent.  Then he used a bigger snake that wouldn't fit in the bend of the P-trap.  Every time he came back into the apartment, it was a bigger, more powerful tool.  He said that Home Depot was the only place to have the right auger, and they were closed; he'd have to come back in the morning.  Then he comes back in with some of the most pungent, powerful stinky drain cleaner.  Which cleared the clog!  It stunk to high heaven, and we had to leave the bathroom door closed for about half an hour so we didn't pass out from the fumes, but the tub drains now!

So that means Odin will get his first bath with us!  And he is all kinds of wound up right now, so this should be fun.  Or terrifying.   I'm not sure which.

See, the design flaw with that drain is there is some plug/stopper thing that you can flip a switch with your toe to close or open.  But it gets filled up with hair easily.  So you take it out of the drain, which is hard because it has an o-ring in there to keep it in the tub.  Then you forget to put it back in because it's a pain to have to remove it after every shower.  Then the drain clogs up after a few months of that.  So we went to ACE Hardware and got a little mesh strainer that fits right in the drain, and is easily removed because there is no suction or anything that keeps it in place besides its weight.  Hopefully that will solve all our problems.

It was so nice to shower this morning and not be standing in five inches of water when I was done!

Productive? Almost.

I was going to write this post today about how productive we'd been all weekend!  About how I cut Aaron's hair for him, how we'd unclogged the drain in the bathroom, and then gave the cat a bath!  Maybe even how we went to a movie (first in two years).  But so far, only one of those things has been accomplished this weekend.  It is still early, so more could happen, but I am doubtful.

So far, I have only managed to cut Aaron's hair.  We were running into the problem of a possible mullet, and I wasn't about to allow one of those in my apartment.  So I asked a co-worker who I know cuts hair for advice, and did some looking up on the internet for tips.  Everything I researched pretty much confirmed what I thought I should do.  I am proud to say that Aaron is neither missing large chunks from his head, nor is he bald due to a home hair cut gone wrong.

As far as unclogging the drain and giving the cat a bath?  Well, those kind of went hand in hand, and did not happen.  Our drain in the shower has been draining slower and slower each day, and I am always left standing in a few inches of water by the time I am done.  We had unclogged it in the past to some degree of success, but it kept getting backed up again.  We did Liquid Plumr, pulled hair out of the drain, and even boiling water and baking soda.  Well, it just hasn't been working.  We even tried using a plumber's snake today, to no avail.  So I ended up calling the rental office to see if the handyman was around today, because I know the office is open on Saturdays.  She said that he might be at another property working on stuff, but she could page him and see, and call me back.  No call back yet (3 hours later), so I'm assuming he is not around, and we will have to wait until Monday.  When am I supposed to shower?  I haven't showered since Thursday morning!

The movie may or may not happen tonight; I think we have plans with some friends, but we won't hear from them until later.  So that means the movie will probably get pushed to Sunday.  *sigh*  What an unproductive weekend so far.

busy busy busy

Boy have we been busy!  I don't even remember the last time I posted, or what I posted about, so I will try not to repeat myself (and I am too lazy to go back and look at what I last posted).  Aaron and I got the Mario Kart for the Wii, which is super fun, and the controllers work really well for it. I got the new Barenaked Ladies' "Snack Time" CD, which is actually a CD of children's songs, written by the Barenaked Ladies, and even though I don't have any kids, or even KNOW any kids (yet), I had to get it just because it was them.  I've only listened to about half so far, but it's a lot of fun.

Work has been work.  I have been picking up cases from a co-worker who got a bigger case load and is being buried in files, so I've been keeping very busy as well.

Last Friday about four of us from work and their significant others (MY significant other did not want to come) went to a Twins' game, which was a lot of fun, and they kicked Detroit's butts.  We were in general admission, and it was almost the exact opposite of where Aaron and I sat with his folks when we were in the family section.  Lots of fun.  Then yesterday, Aaron and I went to a St. Paul Saints game.  They are a minor league team, and that was a lot of fun, although a little chilly, as the game was at 7pm, and it's still only Spring.  We left early because the game was taking so long, we were cold, and we still had to get up and go to work the next day.  But that's okay, it was a cool experience.  Plus we got free baseballs!

We might go to the Twins' game on Sunday.  The first 10,000 women there get a free pink Twins shirt!

I went to Ann's baby shower on Sunday the 4th, and that was fun.  I only knew Ann and Jess, and had met a couple of Ann's friends at previous events like her wedding and New Years.  She really liked the blanket I made for her.  I will have to put some pictures up of it, I just don't have them loaded onto the computer yet.

Cat Monster is sitting on the back of the chair behind me, rolling around, eating his own tail, and almost flopping off onto my head.  He gets all wild and crazy around 9pm.  What a weirdo.  The Humane Society called me a couple of days ago to thank me for adopting him and to make sure everything was going well.  He has settled into our home and we have become accustomed to his wackiness.

I have not got much planning done for the wedding.  We have a small guest list started, and Aaron's ring size and width figured out, but that's about it.  I need to get some bridal magazines or something from the grocery check out stand.  I like to have things in front of me on paper, instead of just looking online.  I'd have to print it off if I wanted to put it my planner, anyway, so why not have a nice glossy version?

Well, I'm going to work on uploading those pictures, so hopefully I will have some stuff to show you in my next post!  Until then!
